Terms of Service

Terms of Service

Last updated 12 August 2026

1. Acceptance

These terms are a contract between you and Otter Technologies Ltd (company number 16995690), trading as Itchy Tiller (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Itchy Tiller.

2. What Itchy Tiller is

Itchy Tiller is a companion app for UK canal boaters: route planning, mooring time-limit tracking, stoppage notices and a maintenance log, alongside an AI assistant.

It is not a substitute for official notices or signage. Waterway, lock, bridge and mooring data is sourced from CanalPlan.uk (CanalPlanAC) and public Canal & River Trust datasets, and can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Always check current Canal & River Trust notices and on-the-ground signage before you travel or rely on a facility being available.

3. Your account

  • You need to be at least 16 to create an account.
  • You’re responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure, and for anything that happens under your account.
  • The information you give us should be accurate — an email address you actually use, in particular, since it’s how we sign you in and reach you.
  • You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account. We may also suspend or delete an account that breaches these terms (see section 9).

4. Subscriptions and payment

  • Some features require a paid plan. Prices and what’s included are shown in the app before you subscribe.
  • Payments and subscription management are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
  • Paid plans renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time from your profile — you’ll keep access until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
  • If you’re a consumer in the UK, you may have a right to cancel a new digital subscription within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 — note that this right can be lost once you’ve started using the paid features, if you agreed to that when subscribing.
  • We may change prices for future billing periods; we’ll give you reasonable notice first.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the app for anything unlawful, or in a way that could harm other users or the service;
  • submit knowingly false feedback, map reports or stoppage information;
  • scrape, reverse engineer, or attempt to extract our underlying data or source code beyond normal use of the app;
  • interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service; or
  • impersonate someone else, or misuse another user’s content.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos, notes and reports you add to Itchy Tiller. By uploading them, you give us a licence to store and display them back to you within the app, purely to provide the service. You confirm you have the right to upload whatever you add, and that it doesn’t infringe anyone else’s rights.

7. Windy, the AI assistant

Windy is an AI assistant, not a professional, legal, or navigational authority. Its answers can be incomplete or wrong. Don’t rely on it in place of official Canal & River Trust notices, signage, or your own judgement — especially anything safety-related.

8. Third-party services and links

The app links to and relies on third-party services — including CanalPlan.uk, Canal & River Trust open data, OpenStreetMap, Stripe, and sign-in providers like Google, Apple, Facebook and GitLab. We’re not responsible for their content, availability, or how they handle your data — check their own terms and privacy policies.

9. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or delete an account that breaches these terms, poses a risk to the service or other users, or where we’re required to by law. Where practical, we’ll tell you why. You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time.

10. Availability and changes to the app

We work to keep Itchy Tiller available and accurate, but we don’t guarantee uninterrupted access, and we may add, change or remove features — including ones you’ve come to rely on — as the app evolves.

11. Disclaimers and liability

The app is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential loss, and for decisions made based on map, routing, mooring, stoppage or AI-assistant information — see section 2 and 7 above. Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law doesn’t allow us to, such as for death, personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be handled by the courts of England and Wales.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll update the “last updated” date above, and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
