Update history

Wed, Oct 7

Since our last update, engineers have attended site to inspect Lock 46 following a boating incident.

Unfortunately, the lock gate has detached from its fixing. Repairs will involve replacing the anchor plate that has been pulled from the coping stone and reattaching the lock gate on the offside. The works are expected to be completed within the next two to three weeks.

During this period, a detailed repair plan will be developed, the required materials will be ordered, and consultations will take place with our Heritage and Ecology teams to ensure the works can proceed appropriately.

A further update will be provided on or before Wednesday 28 October.

Please be advised navigation is currently closed at Lock 46, on the Leeds & Liverpool canal. This is due to vandalism, which has resulted in a closure.

Our local team have visited the lock and it's not an easy repair, therefore our engineers have been informed. Once the assessment has been made and works for repair can proceed, we will update you all accordingly.

To ensure the safety of our customers, padlocks have been placed on Bottom Lock 51 and Top Lock 45 to prevent access on to the Barrowford Lock Flight.

Conditions can change. Check local signage and the latest official notice before travelling.
