Bridge 100

Since our last update, our engineering team have been progressing the development of an alternative handrail design.

However, works to install the new handrail need to be re-scheduled once the re-design has been finalised and approved by the Heritage Association. Until then all scaffolding has been removed from the area until this time.

A further towpath closure will be required to allow the works to be carried out safely and more information about this will be published in due course.

Following our last update, our team has carried out scans of the area ahead of installing the new handrail. The scans have shown that the ground is not deep enough to support the proposed handrail.

Our engineers will now develop and submit an alternative design for the handrail. The new design will need to receive further heritage approval before the installation can proceed.

Since our last update, the Heritage Association approval has been granted for the new handrail, and our team have received the replacement handrail.

Third-party contractors have now scheduled the works and will be attending site from Monday, 14 September to begin the installation. The works are expected to take approximately one week to complete.

Access to the towpath from Bridge 100 on the Lancaster Canal is currently restricted due to the installation of scaffolding.

Scaffolding remains in place to maintain safe conditions while we await approval from the Heritage Association for the design of a replacement handrail. Once approval has been received, we will be able to plan the installation of the new handrail.

Access to the offside towpath from Bridge 100 on the Lancaster Canal remains closed while scaffolding is in place to keep the area safe until a replacement handrail can be installed.

Access from the bridge to the nearside towpath remains open and available for use.
